Anyone who owns a sculpture of Fotis should also possess a certificate to prove the authenticity of the art work. In fact, such certificates are always issued by the artist to accompany any of his sculptures.
Asking for the certificate of authenticity is especially important for auction houses to avoid accepting for auction pieces that may originate from robbery or falsification. In such cases, the result may be low auction prices, sometimes even below material cost. This would damage the reputation and the dignity of the artist.
Clearly, if a sculpture is auctioned, the seller has the right (even against the wishes of the artist) to give it away for 1 Euro although its real value may amount to, e.g., 30,000 Euro. However, the auction house should always ask the seller to provide the certificate before accepting a sculpture for auction.
For any work of Fotis, the authenticity of the certificate can be checked with the sculptor himself via email: fotis.sculptor@gmail.com
